The Latin phrase "Labor Omnia Vincit," meaning "Work conquers all," is a core part of our school's ethos. This phrase embodies our commitment to dedicated effort, meticulous attention to detail, and a relentless pursuit of excellence in all academic endeavours.
Ms Derrett Director – Excelsior Academic College
After completing a Bachelors in Science, followed by both an Honours and Masters in Physics, I completed my PGCE. I have taught at various schools and universities around Gauteng which led to my desire to create a place where each and every student is given a chance to achieve a world-class education at a school offering an internationally recognised education system. It was with this in mind that I established the College. I strive to see every student unlock their full potential by creating an open and supportive atmosphere which encourages our students to develop on both academic and personal levels. The combination of our extremely passionate staff, small classes, and a safe environment helps every student realise their full potential. I encourage and help each student based on their specific learning style and will always make them feel like they can reach their goals.

There are two Cambridge International Examinations seasons in a year. The May/June season typically enrols in February of the same year. The October/November season enrolment typically takes place in August. It's imperative to actively stay up to date with the CIE board exam dates registration dates.
Every South African university has their own assessment and application points system and it is important to enquire with the university to ensure the correct subjects and grade requirements are met. More information is available at https://mb.usaf.ac.za/
The difference between AS-Level and A-Level qualifications lies in their structure and the depth of study required. AS-Level, or Advanced Subsidiary Level, is typically taken in the first year of a two-year A-Level course. It is a standalone qualification that covers the first half of the subject content of an A-Level course. Students can choose to take AS-Level exams at the end of this first year. A-Level, or Advanced Level, qualifications are completed after an additional year of study, covering the second half of the subject content. The full A-Level qualification is generally more comprehensive and is often required for university admissions. At Excelsior Academic College we support students in navigating these academic paths to achieve their educational goals.
AS-Level qualifications, or Advanced Subsidiary Levels, are a type of academic certification offered primarily in the UK, typically taken by students aged 16 to 18. They are considered a stepping stone to A-Levels, providing a comprehensive understanding of a subject over one year instead of two. At Excelsior Academic College, we specialise in offering tailored programs and study resources designed to help students excel in their AS-Level exams (CIE). Our experienced educators create personalised study plans that cater to individual learning styles, ensuring that students gain a solid foundation in their chosen subjects. By achieving high marks in their AS-Levels, students can improve their chances of securing placements in top universities and enhance their academic and career prospects.
The CIE - AS-Level practical science exams are meticulously assessed to ensure a thorough evaluation of each student's competencies and understanding. These exams typically involve hands-on experiments and data analysis tasks that reflect real-world scientific procedures. During the assessment, students are graded on various criteria such as their ability to follow experimental protocols accurately, manipulate scientific equipment safely, observe and record data precisely, and analyse their results effectively. Additionally, students may be required to demonstrate their problem-solving strategies and apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive assessment that not only gauges students' technical skills but also their critical thinking and ability to conduct scientific inquiries methodically.
Students can be confident that their Cambridge IGCSE and Cambridge International AS & A Level qualifications are accepted as equivalent to UK GCSE and AS & A Levels by leading universities worldwide. An independent study by UK NARIC, the national agency in the UK for the recognition and comparison of international qualifications and skills, has found the qualifications to be comparable to UK GCSE and AS & A Level. South African universities accept CIE Board qualifications but it s important to confirm your subject requirements at AS-Level and A-Level at the universities you are planning on applying to.
